The Ojude Oba Festival in Ijebu‑Ode stands as one of Nigeria’s most spectacular cultural gatherings
The Ojude Oba Festival in Ijebu‑Ode stands as one of Nigeria’s most spectacular cultural gatherings. Held two days after Eid al‑Kabir, it unites the Ijebu people in homage to the Awujale, their revered monarch. A defining highlight is the procession of the 13 historic horse‑riding families, descendants of warrior lineages who once protected the kingdom. Clad in radiant aso‑oke and mounted on beautifully adorned horses, they parade with pride and precision. Their presence symbolizes loyalty, heritage, and unity, transforming the king’s forecourt into a vibrant display of Ijebu identity.
This is one of the families.
